Meeting with ESTSS Board members Professor Berthold Garsons and Professor Norbert Gurris, 15 July 2006
In Spring 2006, several ESTSS members in Poland received e-mails enquiring whether they would be willing to organise a meeting of Polish trauma specialists with representatives of the ESTSS Board.
With the agreement with the Dean’s Office of the University of Warsaw Faculty of Psychology, Professor Maja Lis-Turlejska undertook the organisation of that meeting.

In 1980, together with the issuing of the third edition of the American Psychiatric Association’s handbook “Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders” (DSM-III), a new nosological unit – Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – was added to the psychological disorder classification system employed in the US. The decision to create a separate category was based on an accumulation of clinical observations and also on the results of research, mainly concerning Vietnam War veterans and woman victims of sexual violence.
